The Hebrew month leading up to Rosh HaShanah, Elul, is considered the beginning of the season of repentance or teshuva. The rabbis suggest that the name Elul, or אֱלוּל, is an acronym for the famous quote from the Song of Songs, “ahni l’dodi v’dodi li, I am my beloved and my beloved is mine.” This evening we will explore what the spirituality of love has to do with teshuva, the process of returning to a positive relationship with God, in hopes that this emotional exploration will help us have a more positive perspective on the season of the High Holidays as well.
